Laine Lyles, a 15‑year‑old guard from Culver Academy in Indiana, arrived in Knoxville on an unofficial visit that coincided with a July 14 announcement of a Tennessee offer. The meeting with Coach Kim Caldwell gave the young prospect a first‑hand look at the program’s culture and facilities.
Lyles, already courted by a dozen power‑conference schools including Arizona State, Ohio State, Purdue and Michigan, said the visit was part of a broader effort to gauge how each program fits her long‑term goals. At 5‑foot‑10, she brings versatility that could translate into multiple roles at the next level.
The Lady Vols are currently without any verbal commitments for the 2027, 2028 or 2029 cycles, a situation that makes Lyles’ interest especially valuable. Earlier in the recruiting window, the team had secured a pledge from five‑star forward Oliviyah Edwards, only to see her flip to South Carolina, leaving the roster still in search of a foundational piece.
Nevertheless, Tennessee has already added two pieces for the 2026‑27 season — four‑star guard Gabby Minus and international recruit Irene Oboavwoduo. Both players are praised for their work ethic, and Coach Caldwell hopes their presence will accelerate the development of younger talent like Lyles.
