Eastern Mennonite University announced this week that Tori Jankoska will assume the role of head coach for the women's basketball team, beginning July 1. The decision follows a thorough search that highlighted her blend of playing experience, coaching acumen, and commitment to nurturing young athletes.
A Coaching Journey
Jankoska's career spans both the collegiate and professional arenas. After a standout playing stint at Michigan State, where she became the program's all‑time leader in points, three‑point field goals and free throws, she transitioned to coaching. She served as an assistant at the University of Virginia from April 2022, contributing to a 70‑58 record and a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2026 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. Prior to that, she spent three seasons at Missouri State, helping the team secure a No. 5 seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament and earning a No. 13 ranking in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Vision and Energy
Known for her infectious energy and competitive spirit, Jankoska has been praised for her ability to connect with players and foster growth both on and off the court. Her philosophy centers on developing well‑rounded young women who excel in teamwork, resilience and academic achievement. Athletic Director Carrie Bert expressed confidence that Jankoska's passion and strategic vision will elevate the program and strengthen the university's athletic community.
Looking Ahead
Jankoska will officially begin her duties on July 1, a timeline that aligns with the university's goal of continuity and stability. The incoming coach brings a clear roadmap for recruiting, player development and community engagement. Fans, alumni and campus members alike are eager to see how her experience in high‑profile programs will translate into success for Eastern Mennonite's women's basketball team.
