District 31 Junior Baseball Delivers Late-Inning Thrills
The evening at District 31 Junior baseball saw Township clinch a 2-1 victory over Kingston/Forty Fort in the bottom of the eighth inning, a finish that left the crowd on its feet. Osman Avila’s clutch single drove in the game-winning run, capping a tightly contested match.
Chris Tibel turned in a complete-game four-hitter, striking out five and walking just one, while surrendering only an unearned run. His steady presence on the mound kept Township in contention throughout.
The Township offense was bolstered by hits from Joey Racavitch, Cody Karboski and others, with Karboski and Avila each adding RBI singles that helped seal the narrow win.
Across the field, Back Mountain erased a nine-run deficit to post an 18-12 victory over Wilkes-Barre, sparked by Jayden Lyons’ 2.2 innings of two-hit, four-strikeout relief work.
The rally was fueled by a collective offensive burst: Lyons, Ryan Jones, Eli Lanfrank and Samuel Geblunas each collected two hits, while Jones, Fred Gunn III, Chance Susko, Benjamin Neher and Geblunas drove in two runs apiece. Lucas Smith added a triple-threat performance with three hits, a double and three RBIs.
The doubleheader of drama underscored the competitive spirit of the league, as Township’s late surge and Back Mountain’s comeback left fans buzzing heading into the next round of play.
