A somber cloud settled over Richland County this week after authorities confirmed that 14‑year‑old Briggs Maxwell, a freshman on the Ithaca/Weston football team, was killed in a farming accident involving a skid loader.
According to the county sheriff’s office, Maxwell was operating the loader on a family farm when the machine’s bucket struck his head, inflicting a severe traumatic injury. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but despite intensive medical care he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
