A Sunday morning in Meriden, Connecticut, turned deadly when a domestic dispute erupted into a violent confrontation on Sagamore Road. Police were called around 10 a.m. after reports of a weapon being used in an act of family violence.
An officer responded to the scene and, after the suspect brandished a baseball bat, discharged his firearm, fatally wounding the attacker. The victims, a father and his son, were pronounced dead at the location.
Neighbors React to the Unthinkable
Long‑time residents described the scene as "grisly" and unprecedented for the quiet street. Raymond Prue, who has lived on Sagamore Road for more than 65 years, said he had never witnessed such aggression in the neighborhood, while Alaine Griffin, another longtime neighbor, expressed disbelief at the brutality of the incident.
Authorities have launched investigations, with the Connecticut State Police and the state Office of the Inspector General both involved in examining the officer’s actions and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The medical examiner’s office confirmed that Robert Jenkins Jr., 69, died from blunt force head injuries, while his son, Robert Jenkins III, succumbed to gunshot wounds to the torso. Investigators have not yet released the full names of the victims, but a preliminary status report is expected later this week.
