On a summer afternoon in Meriden, Connecticut, the peaceful streets were ripped apart when Robert Jenkins III, 38, seized a baseball bat and struck his own father, Robert Jenkins Jr., 69, outside their home. Witnesses said the assault was swift and brutal, leaving the elder Jenkins critically injured on the pavement.
Police Officer Anthony Offiaeli arrived within minutes. He ordered Jenkins III to drop the weapon, but the younger man refused and continued the attack.
