Travis Fitta has been named the new hitting coach for Grand Canyon University’s baseball program, slated to begin his duties in the 2026 season. The announcement was made by the university’s athletics department, highlighting Fitta’s extensive background in player development and his proven track record of producing draft‑ready talent.
A Career Built on Development
Fitta’s professional journey began after serving in the U.S. Army from 2009 to 2015 as an infantryman, a period that instilled discipline and a results‑oriented mindset. He later transitioned to baseball, starting with the Chicago Cubs organization where he coached minor‑league hitters before moving to the Washington Nationals’ Triple‑A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings.
From Driveline to Ascent Athlete
From 2023 to 2026, Fitta served as senior hitting trainer and hitting coordinator at Driveline Baseball, a leading analytics and training facility. In that role he designed individualized development plans for athletes ranging from MLB prospects to high‑school standouts, overseeing the production of 14 MLB Draft picks and 48 college commitments at Ascent Athlete, where he previously directed player development and hitting instruction.
A Return to the Southwest
Fitta’s connection to the Southwest runs deep; he spent a year as Ohio’s director of hitting development in 2019 before joining GCU. His experience spans multiple facets of the game, including stints with the Chicago Cubs, the Rochester Red Wings, and various private training outlets, giving him a broad perspective on hitting mechanics and performance.
What This Means for the Lopes
Grand Canyon University’s athletics director expressed confidence that Fitta’s expertise will elevate the program’s competitive edge. “Travis brings a wealth of knowledge and a relentless focus on player growth,” the director said. “We’re excited to see how his approach will translate into stronger performances on the field and greater opportunities for our student‑athletes.”
