Travis Jewett is set to rejoin the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball program as the Director of Player Strategy and Personnel, a role that will centralize recruiting, name‑image‑likeness negotiations and the increasingly complex transfer portal.
Having first served the university from 2013 to 2016 as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator, Jewett left to become head coach at Tulane before spending three years as an assistant at Southern California. His journey also included stints at Gonzaga, Washington State and Arizona State, giving him a broad network of contacts and a reputation for spotting talent.
Coach Tim Corbin, who has guided the Commodores for more than a decade, praised Jewett’s blend of experience and relationships, noting that the new position was created after the team missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2005. Corbin emphasized that the hire is part of a broader effort to modernize the program’s player development pipeline.
Vanderbilt’s recent offseason has been marked by a series of setbacks: several high‑profile transfer targets slipped away and the 2025 draft saw many of the program’s top prospects selected by professional clubs. In response, the athletic department turned to the draft to secure six top‑100 freshmen, a move that underscores both the urgency and the opportunity for strategic oversight.
Jewett expressed enthusiasm about returning to Nashville, describing the university as an “elite organization” and highlighting his excitement to contribute to a culture he knows well. His appointment is being watched closely by analysts who see it as a potential catalyst for reversing the program’s recent decline.
