A Strategic Overhaul for Tennessee Baseball
Travis Sanders, a junior infielder who transferred from Texas Tech to Baylor, revealed his commitment to the University of Tennessee baseball team on Instagram on June 26. The announcement came as a high‑profile addition to a Volunteers program that has been actively reshaping its roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Standing 6‑foot‑2 and weighing 193 pounds, Sanders brings a .369 career batting average, 82 hits and nine home runs from his 2026 All‑Big 12 second‑team season with the Bears. His blend of power and contact hitting is expected to add depth to Tennessee’s lineup.
The Volunteers have also seen a wave of departures, with players such as Jay Abernathy, Nic Abraham, Ariel Antigua and others exiting the program. Those exits have cleared space for a fresh influx of talent.
Among the newcomers are Parker Detmers, Wyatt Hanoian, Braydon Kersey, Jake McCoy, Ricky Ojeda and Brody Trosclair, who join Sanders as part of a broader recruiting push that also includes transfers from Oklahoma, Arizona, San Diego State, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Missouri, TCU and West Virginia.
Coaches say the mix of experienced transfers and promising newcomers positions Tennessee to compete strongly in the SEC, and the coaching staff is optimistic that the new roster can translate its potential into wins on the diamond.
