A Milestone Season for the RedHawks
Travis Steele, the architect of Miami University’s recent basketball resurgence, has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the helm through the 2033‑34 season. The new deal rewards Steele after a breakout year that saw the RedHawks capture unprecedented accolades.
Under Steele’s guidance, Miami posted a flawless regular‑season slate, finishing undefeated and amassing 32 victories — the most in program history. The team also set a school record with 31 consecutive home wins and compiled 15 straight road victories, marking a dominant stretch that placed the RedHawks among the nation’s elite.
The surge propelled Miami into the Top 25 for the first time since 1999, with the team’s highest ranking reaching No. 19. The performance made Miami the fifth program in the past century of Division I men’s basketball to finish a regular season unbeaten, and it tied the Mid‑American Conference record for most wins in a single campaign.
Steele’s coaching excellence was recognized with multiple Coach of the Year honors, including the NABC Division I East District Coach of the Year, the Mid‑American Conference Coach of the Year, and the John McLendon National Coach of the Year award.
The RedHawks’ historic run continued in the NCAA tournament, where they opened with a victory over SMU in the First Four before falling to Tennessee in the opening round. The tournament appearance underscored the program’s renewed national relevance.
