Trent Robbins, a 6‑foot‑5, 260‑pound junior offensive tackle at Shaker High School in Latham, New York, has pledged to continue his football career at Stony Brook University.
The commitment comes as Robbins prepares to enter college as an engineering major, and he decided to lock in his choice before his senior season to avoid the distractions of the recruiting cycle.
Stony Brook edged out other Division I programs such as the University at Albany and Dartmouth, a decision highlighted by his coach, Greg Sheeler, who praised the player’s work ethic, loyalty and academic ambition.
Sheeler noted that Robbins earned Times Union Large School first‑team honors, was selected to the Section 2 Class AA first team and received fourth‑team all‑state recognition, while Shaker missed the sectional playoffs for the first time in 14 years.
A Calculated Move for Senior Year
By committing early, Robbins hopes to concentrate on his final high school campaign without the pressure of ongoing recruitment talks, a strategy that reflects a growing trend among top prospects.
