Trent Sisley Returns as Indiana’s Versatile Leader Ahead of Peru Tour

The lone scholarship returnee talks development, vocal leadership and the team’s international experience.

A Quiet Offseason, A Loud Leadership Role

Trent Sisley is the only scholarship player who will return for Indiana University’s 2026‑27 campaign, giving the program a rare continuity in a roster that otherwise turns over each year.

Last season he logged 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in just 13.1 minutes per game, numbers that barely hint at the impact he hopes to have now that he is fully entrenched in the team’s system.

Sisley says the limited role last year taught him the value of staying ready, maintaining a positive attitude and constantly refining his body, shot and quickness. "I’ve focused on getting stronger and quicker, especially on defense," he explained after a recent practice.

That physical work has translated into a more confident outlook. "I feel more comfortable and decisive this offseason," he noted, emphasizing that the extra strength should open up minutes at both the three and four positions.

Leadership is another area where Sisley is stepping up. As the sole returning scholarship athlete, he feels a responsibility to be vocal and help the newcomers settle in.

The team’s upcoming trip to Peru will provide a unique chance to bond on the court and in the locker room. "Playing abroad gives us valuable game time and a chance to grow together," he said, adding that the experience will be a catalyst for the chemistry he wants to see develop.

New teammates Aiden Sherrell and Samet Yigitoglu are expected to contribute on both ends of the floor, while Markus Burton’s quickness and mid‑range game have already drawn praise. Darren Harris, a defensive stalwart with a winning background, also brings a fresh edge to the squad.

Sisley’s advice to the incoming freshmen is simple: stay aggressive and be ready to play at any moment. "Don’t wait for a perfect opportunity; create it," he urged, a sentiment that echoes his own journey from limited minutes to a leadership position.

With a blend of physical improvement, vocal leadership and an international experience on the horizon, Sisley believes the Hoosiers are poised for a season that could exceed expectations.
