Trent Taylor, a 32-year-old former wide receiver who spent four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, announced his retirement on Instagram, bringing to a close a nine-year NFL career that also included stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears.
A quiet retirement in the Bay Area
His most productive season arrived in 2017, his rookie year, when he caught 43 passes for 430 yards, a promising start that hinted at a bright future.
Subsequent injuries eroded his on-field contributions, culminating in a missed 2019 campaign after a foot fracture and a gradual decline in production.
In 2024 he returned to the 49ers, appearing in only two games before the team placed him on injured reserve for the entire 2025 season, still battling an undisclosed injury.
Prior to the NFL, Taylor excelled at Louisiana Tech, where as a senior in 2016 he amassed 1,803 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, drawing the attention of league scouts.
