Trevin Sonnier Named Fifth Head Coach of TJC Baseball
Trevin Sonnier has been appointed as the fifth head baseball coach at Tyler Junior College, taking over the program after two seasons of Brett Doe. His arrival marks a new chapter for the Apaches as they look to build on recent regional success.
Sonnier arrives with nearly a decade of collegiate coaching experience, having guided teams at Howard College, Abilene Christian University, Wright State University, Dallas Baptist University and Oral Roberts University. At Howard College he transformed the program into a premier developmental pipeline, guiding 41 student‑athletes to four‑year institutions and capturing a Grayson Regional Championship while advancing to the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament.
A Proven Developer of Talent
During his tenure at Howard College, Sonnier’s teams consistently ranked among the nation’s best, culminating in a regional title and a berth in the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament. His ability to nurture raw talent into professional‑level prospects has been a hallmark of his coaching philosophy.
Before turning to coaching, Sonnier enjoyed a solid playing career at Texas Christian University, Panola College, Dallas Baptist University and Oral Roberts University. He earned a spot on the Brooks Wallace Award watch list in 2016 as one of the nation’s top shortstops and later signed a professional contract with the Chicago White Sox, for whom he played two seasons.
He succeeds Brett Doe, who moved to Abilene Christian University after leading the TJC Apaches to a regional final appearance in 2025. Sonnier will look to elevate the program’s national profile and sustain its competitive edge through a clear vision for player development.
