A New Chapter for the Bears
Morgan State University's men's basketball program has secured a commitment from guard Trey Pettigrew, who will be part of the 2026‑27 roster. The announcement was made on May 28, 2026, and highlights the player's readiness to contribute immediately to the team's ambitions.
Pettigrew arrives in Baltimore with a reputation as a reliable scorer and a versatile presence on the court. His track record of double‑digit performances and ability to adapt to different offensive systems make him a valuable addition as the Bears look to strengthen their lineup for the upcoming season.
College Career Highlights
During his most recent season at Johnson C. Smith University, Pettigrew averaged 17.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He scored in double figures on 21 occasions, including seven performances with 20 or more points, underscoring his consistency as a offensive weapon.
His collegiate journey also includes a brief but notable stint at Eastern Michigan University, where he appeared in 22 games with six starts, posting a season‑high eight points and five rebounds. Prior to that, he spent a year at the University of Nevada, Reno, contributing 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in limited minutes.
Pettigrew's high school career began at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, before he transferred to Eduprize High School in Gilbert, Arizona, for his junior year. He returned to Illinois for his senior season at Kenwood Academy, where he was recognized as one of the top five prospects in the state and earned All‑Chicago Catholic League Second Team honors in 2019‑20.
Head coach Kevin Broadus expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, noting that Pettigrew's blend of scoring ability, toughness and versatility aligns perfectly with the Bears' strategic goals. "We’re excited to bring a player of Trey’s caliber into our program," Broadus said, emphasizing the impact the guard is expected to have on both ends of the floor.
