Remembering Tom Augé
The hockey community in the Chicago suburbs mourns the loss of Thomas "Tom" Augé, who passed away unexpectedly last week at the age of 57. Augé had been a fixture on the sidelines of the Glenview Stars' Mite AA program for several seasons, offering mentorship to young players and embodying the spirit of grassroots hockey.
Born and raised in the northern suburbs, Augé made his home in Park Ridge, where he lived with his family for more than three decades. Friends and colleagues recall his quiet dedication, often arriving early to set up equipment and staying late to provide extra instruction to players eager to improve.
The news of his death prompted an outpouring of tributes from parents, teammates, and fellow coaches. "He was more than a coach; he was a teacher and a friend to every kid that stepped onto the ice," said one parent who wished to remain anonymous. Augé's impact extended beyond drills and strategies, shaping the character of many young athletes.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in Park Ridge. The service will be followed by a private burial, and family members have asked that donations be made to local youth sports programs in his memory.
The Glenview Stars organization released a statement honoring Augé's contributions, noting that his commitment helped the Mite AA team achieve notable progress over the past few seasons. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tom Augé, whose passion for the game and for his players will be remembered forever," the statement read.
