Championship Dominance
Trinity High School captured its second consecutive Kentucky High School Athletic Association baseball championship on June 13, defeating Boyd County 12‑0 in a game halted after five innings by the 10‑run mercy rule.
The victory extended the Shamrocks’ unbeaten run to 24 straight games and added to a 50‑game winning streak against Kentucky opponents that began after their last loss in the state semifinals two years ago.
Offensive Explosion
Grayson Willoughby and Hudson Meredith started the scoring with RBI singles in the first inning, and the team surged with seven runs in the second, highlighted by two‑run hits from Nolan Hosking and Max Phillips.
Fifteen of the first twenty batters reached base through a blend of hits, walks and hit‑by‑pitches, underscoring the lineup’s depth.
Pitching Masterclass
Willoughby delivered a one‑hitter, striking out seven batters without issuing a walk, a performance that drew scouts from the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels.
The outing also avenged a 5‑0 loss to Trinity in last year’s semifinals, where Gray Davis had tossed a no‑hitter for Boyd County.
With the championship, Trinity now ranks No. 1 nationally and is projected to have multiple players selected in the upcoming Major League Baseball draft, including Willoughby, who is expected to be a high‑round pick.
