Troy baseball coach Skylar Meade addressed the theft of roughly $35,000 worth of camera equipment during the College World Series, telling reporters that the loss would 'figure itself out as time moves forward.'
The gear was taken from beneath the team bus at the Hyatt Place Omaha Downtown-Old Market Hotel on Saturday, June 13, and police were called to Charles Schwab Field at 11:44 a.m. the following day to begin an investigation.
Troy managed to win its opening game in Omaha, edging Ole Miss 12-8, a result that Meade said kept the team’s focus on the field rather than the missing equipment.
Support from the College World Series community
In a statement released after the game, the program thanked the NCAA, CWS Omaha, Creighton Athletics and Omaha Athletics for their assistance and for helping the team move past the incident.
The Trojans had reached Omaha by first beating Florida twice in the Gainesville Regional and then sweeping Little Rock in the Super Regional, setting the stage for what many are calling a historic postseason run.
