Troy Baseball Hits Program‑Record No. 6 Ranking After Historic Season

A run to the College World Series propelled by Jabe Boroff and Jimmy Janicki fuels the Trojans’ historic rise

Troy University’s baseball program reached a milestone this season, climbing to a program‑record No. 6 in the national collegiate rankings released by Baseball America and the National College Baseball Writers Association. The Trojans also appeared at No. 8 in both the D1Baseball Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll, marking the highest ranking in Troy’s Division‑I history across all sports.

The Trojans’ ascent was fueled by a four‑game sweep of the Gainesville Regional, where they defeated Rider, Miami and the No. 8 Florida Gators. Jabe Boroff homered four times in the series and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, while Jimmy Janicki added two homers in a 16‑11 victory over the Gators.

A Season to Remember

In the Super Regional, Troy traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, and dominated the Trojans of Little Rock, drawing crowds of over 6,400 and 7,000 fans in the first two games. Pitcher Tommy Egan delivered 7.1 innings with eight strikeouts in a 7‑2 clinching win.

The run continued in Omaha, Nebraska, where the Trojans posted their first College World Series victory over Ole Miss, a 16‑11 win that featured homers from Sean Darnell, Jimmy Janicki and Blake Cavill.

Although the campaign ended with a 1‑2 record in Omaha, the team finished 39‑32 overall, earned seven ranked wins, and set numerous program records, including Janicki’s 87 RBIs — the second‑most nationally and a Troy record — and Boroff’s 21 tournament RBIs, tied for the most in the country with Auburn’s Chase Fralick.

Head coach Skylar Meade’s fifth‑year squad also placed three players on the All‑Sun Belt First Team — Aaron Piasecki, Drew Nelson and others — while Piasecki’s 95 hits ranked tenth nationally. The season also saw standout performances from Hayden Smith, Benjamin Stubbs, Noah Thigpen and the rest of the roster, underscoring the depth of the historic run.
