Troy University’s baseball program has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Gainesville Regional, a tournament that will be staged in Florida under the auspices of the No. 8 national seed.
The regional, hosted at Condron Family Ballpark in Gainesville, will open with a Friday showdown against Miami, though the exact game time has yet to be announced.
A historic matchup on the horizon
Troy’s path to the regional has been marked by a 32‑29 overall record and a schedule that ranks among the nation’s toughest. The Trojans boast the No. 6 overall strength of schedule and the top non‑conference rating, a testament to a demanding slate that included victories over several Regional hosts.
Standout performances
Sophomore catcher Jimmy Janicki was honored as the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, while seniors Aaron Piasecki and Drew Nelson earned First Team All‑Sun Belt honors. Their contributions helped the team climb the RPI from No. 67 on May 1 to No. 35 on Selection Monday.
The Trojans also posted a 1‑7 all‑time record against Florida and have only faced Miami once, a 12‑4 loss in Atlanta back in 1978. Their recent form includes four straight wins over South Alabama and a series of victories over Regional hosts such as Southern Miss.
Beyond individual accolades, the team’s success reflects a broader upward trajectory for Troy baseball, which has leveraged a strong May that saw rival defeats and a surge in the national rankings.
