A New Chapter for the Guard
Troy Henderson, a key guard for the Tennessee Volunteers, opened up during a recent media availability about the physical and mental hurdles he has faced since his injury and the progress he has made toward returning to competition.
He described the rehabilitation as an up‑and‑down roller coaster, but noted that he is now ahead of schedule in physical therapy and feels ready to compete sooner than many expected.
Henderson highlighted the role of his teammates in his comeback, pointing to DeWayne Brown’s leadership and the rapid rise of Terrance Hill Jr., whom he calls his ‘little brother’, as sources of daily encouragement.
The guard also reflected on how his game has evolved, saying he now plays at a more measured pace and spends extra time studying opponents, a shift that Manny Green has dubbed ‘The Funny Guy’ for his ability to keep the locker room light.
Loyalty to the Volunteers remains at the core of Henderson’s mindset; he cited the passionate fan base, state‑of‑the‑art facilities and the coaching staff, including Chad Barnes, as the reasons he chose to stay and fight for a return.
Looking ahead, Henderson expressed excitement about stepping onto the court in a 5‑on‑0 drill, a sign that he is eager to translate his preparation into game‑ready performance.
