Troy Trojans bolster pitching staff with left‑handed transfer Sam Neal

The new recruit brings three years of eligibility and a strong high school and college pedigree

A left‑handed boost for Troy

The Troy Trojans have announced the addition of Sam Neal, a left‑handed pitcher who transferred from Young Harris College. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Neal arrives with three years of eligibility remaining and a reputation built on strong high school and college performances.

Neal’s high school career at North Atlanta High School was marked by All‑State honors and a standout junior season in which he posted a 1.86 ERA while striking out 60 batters over 37 ⅔ innings. Those numbers caught the attention of several collegiate programs before he committed to Young Harris.

During his freshman year at Young Harris, Neal maintained a 3.10 ERA and recorded 23 strikeouts across his appearances. In his most recent season, he logged 58 ⅓ innings with a 4.32 ERA and 48 strikeouts, demonstrating durability and the ability to handle a sizable workload.

Eligibility and roster fit

Coach Mike Smith said the team is excited to integrate Neal into the rotation, noting that his left‑handedness adds a strategic dimension and that his remaining eligibility aligns perfectly with the program’s long‑term planning.

The Trojans have also secured commitments from a group of other high‑profile prospects, including Kam Jenkins, JT Long, Preston Watkins, Payton Knowles, Cooper Williams, Layne Akers and Grady Bivens, bolstering the depth of the incoming class.

With a blend of proven performance and future potential, Sam Neal is expected to contribute immediately while developing into a key piece of Troy’s pitching staff over the next several seasons.
