A New Era for Troy Basketball

Troy University announced the addition of Franklin Miskelly to its men’s basketball coaching staff, appointing him as an assistant coach ahead of the upcoming season.

Miskelly, a native of Flowood, Mississippi, arrives after a career that spans several high‑profile programs, including stints at ULM, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Winston Academy.

His most recent role was as director of video and analytics at Kansas State, where the Wildcats posted 35 victories and secured a berth in the 2024 NIT, a period that also saw the development of All‑Big 12 selections Arthur Kaluma, Tylor Perry and Coleman Hawkins.

Prior to that, he helped Mississippi State reach back‑to‑back postseason appearances, contributing to the growth of First Team All‑SEC players Iverson Molinar and Tolu Smith while the Bulldogs amassed 39 wins.

Head coach Adam Howard praised Miskelly’s ability to connect with people, stating that his impact will extend beyond the court to the broader program and community.

Howard also highlighted the coach’s prior relationship with Phil Cunningham, under whom Miskelly served as an assistant at ULM, noting that the two share a history of collaborative success.

Miskelly’s coaching journey began as a student manager at Mississippi State, progressed to a graduate assistantship at Southern Miss, and earlier included acting head‑coach duties at Winston Academy in Louisville, Mississippi.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Mississippi State (2021) and a master’s in sport administration (2023), and he is married to McKenzie with a son named Josiah.

The hire underscores Troy’s commitment to blending analytical expertise with on‑court development, positioning the Trojans for a competitive future in the NCAA landscape.
