A Strategic Boost for Troy's 2026‑27 Squad
Troy University’s men’s basketball program is set for a fresh infusion of talent as Coach Adam Howard finalized the 2026‑27 roster, announcing three new signees alongside a handful of returning veterans. The moves come as the program seeks to maintain its upward trajectory in the highly competitive collegiate landscape.
Jacoi Hutchinson arrives from Longwood University, where he established himself as a reliable scorer and playmaker. In his junior season he posted 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field. A three‑star recruit and McDonald’s High School All‑American, Hutchinson also began his college career at George Washington University, averaging 6.9 points and 2.5 rebounds before transferring to Longwood.
Romain Valakou, an incoming freshman from France, brings a European pedigree that includes stints with BCM Gravelines Dunkerque U21 and the French U18 National Team. At the youth level he averaged 20.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists, and he previously posted 16.5 points per game for Cholet U21 in 2025. His versatility as both a scorer and a facilitator is expected to add depth to Troy’s backcourt.
Willie Piggot Jr. rounds out the trio as an Arizona Compass Prep product who earned District 3A Player of the Year honors in 2025 after surpassing 1,000 career points at Tampa Catholic High School. Known for his work ethic, Piggot averaged 18 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals as a junior, and he is projected to contribute immediately as a guard/forward.
Returning Veterans and Additional Newcomers
The roster will also feature returning players such as Kerrington Kiel, Evan Griffin, Emmanuel Clarton and Hikaru Awata, who provide experience and continuity. In addition, Robert Davis Jr. and Tucker Wadsworth of Enterprise are slated to join the incoming class, further enriching the team’s depth and versatility.
Coach Howard expressed confidence that the blend of seasoned veterans and fresh talent will position Troy for a strong season. "We’ve built a roster that can compete at a high level both offensively and defensively," he said. The coaching staff believes the new additions will not only fill statistical gaps but also foster a competitive culture that aligns with the university’s athletic ambitions.
