Troy University announced this week that Franklin Miskelly has joined its men's basketball program as an assistant coach, marking the third such addition to the staff within a single week. The move underscores the program’s aggressive effort to reshape its coaching architecture under the new leadership.
Miskelly arrives with nearly a decade of coaching experience, having most recently served as an assistant at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) under former Troy mentor Phil Cunningham. His career path includes stints as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State and Southern Miss, where he also crossed paths with new Troy assistant Anthony Winchester.
A Strategic Addition to the Coaching Roster
A Mississippi native, Miskelly earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in interdisciplinary studies and a Master’s in Sport Administration from Mississippi State University. He began his professional journey as a student manager at Winston Academy before transitioning to a graduate assistantship at Mississippi State, followed by a role as Director of Video and Analytics at Kansas State University in 2023.
During his tenure at Kansas State, Miskelly played a key role in developing several All‑Big XII athletes, a track record that has earned him praise for his analytical acumen and ability to connect with players. His recent appointment at ULM completes a circuit that links him back to the Troy ecosystem, where he will now work alongside Kyle Roane and Winchester.
Future Implications for the Program
The rapid succession of hires suggests a coordinated strategy to infuse fresh ideas and technical expertise into the roster. By integrating Miskelly’s video and analytics background with the existing staff, Troy aims to enhance scouting precision and player development, positioning the program for competitive growth in the coming seasons.
