Troy University will host a patriotic-themed celebration on September 12, 2026, when the Trojans face Alabama State in a much‑anticipated football matchup.
The game will serve as a tribute to first responders and mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, weaving remembrance into the fabric of college sports.
Static displays of emergency vehicles will line the perimeter of the stadium, while miniature American flags will be handed out to fans as part of the commemoration.
Multiple recognitions will spotlight local emergency personnel, including a special appearance by uniformed responders who will lead the Trojan Walk, escorting the team onto the field.
Shelia Jackson, a Troy native, will lend her voice to the ceremony, performing “God Bless America” during the break between the third and fourth quarters.
The university’s Community Hero Ticket Program will distribute complimentary season tickets to first responders and their families, extending the reach of the celebration beyond the stands.
Beyond this single event, the program regularly provides tickets to military personnel, teachers, special‑needs organizations and children’s charities, reinforcing Troy University’s commitment to giving back to deserving groups within the community.
A lasting community partnership
By coupling athletic excitement with civic appreciation, the initiative aims to leave a lasting impression of the Trojan spirit, fostering connections between the university and the broader Alabama community.
