Troy Wingerter, a veteran administrator who has been a cornerstone of the University of Louisiana’s football program for three decades, announced that he will retire from his role as Chief of Staff on June 30, 2026.
Wingerter first set foot on the campus of the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1986, drawn by a single football game that sparked a lifelong connection to the institution.
Over the course of his career he has worked with nearly 4,000 student‑athletes, participated in 355 games, and collaborated with 143 coaches, including six head coaches, four athletic directors and three university presidents.
His decision to step down comes after careful reflection on recent changes within the university’s administration, a factor he says helped shape his timing and the length of his remaining tenure.
Wingerter emphasized that he remains fully committed to the program through the end of June 2026, ensuring a smooth transition and continued support for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
A Legacy of Service
Throughout his thirty‑year journey, Wingerter has touched countless lives, from the players who wore the Ragin’ Cajuns jersey to the coaches who relied on his behind‑the‑scenes guidance. His influence extends beyond statistics, embedding a culture of dedication and community that will endure long after his departure.
