A Rally with Multiple Agendas
Former President Donald Trump took the stage in Georgia to rally support for Republican Representative Mike Collins, who is challenging Senator Jon Ossoff in a closely watched congressional contest.
During the event, Trump turned his attention to baseball, lambasting the New York Mets for holding the highest payroll in the sport while posting one of the league’s worst win‑loss records.
The Wall Street Journal later published an analysis confirming the Mets’ poor value return, reinforcing the former president’s critique of the franchise.
The rally was not without its share of public reaction; Trump was booed both at the U.S. Open and during the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, underscoring the polarizing nature of his appearances.
On foreign policy, he asserted that the United States had “won” Venezuela and vowed to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, while also referencing a recent dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base honoring three fallen service members.
He introduced Lieutenant Tyler Feehan, whose family attended the Georgia rally, drawing a parallel between the slain soldier and other U.S. military casualties.
Trump claimed that Georgia had been targeted by Chinese election interference in 2020, though he stopped short of saying the meddling altered the outcome, and he noted recent U.S.–Iran strikes that have left nearly 100 American troops injured.
The event also coincided with reports that FBI agents had raided election offices in Fulton County, Georgia, in January, though no criminal charges have emerged to date.
