Hall of Fame Class of 2026
Tubby Smith, the veteran college basketball coach celebrated for his tactical brilliance and mentorship, has earned a place in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. His induction recognizes a career that spans more than three decades and includes some of the most memorable moments in modern college basketball.
Smith first captured national attention when he led the Kentucky Wildcats to the 1998 NCAA championship in his inaugural season as head coach. The following years saw him guide five different programs to the tournament, compile nearly 650 career victories, and steer Texas Tech to the 2016 NCAA Tournament, underscoring his ability to rebuild and sustain competitive teams.
The 2026 induction class will also honor a roster of iconic figures, including Jay Wright, Bob Knight, Ted Owens, Danny Ainge, Glen Rice, Walt Hazzard and Kevin Henderson. Their contributions have shaped the sport across generations, from championship success to pioneering playing styles that continue to influence today's game.
The ceremony will take place in Kansas City, Missouri, where the inductees will be formally enshrined by the Blue Ribbon Selection Committee. The event is organized in partnership with the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, both of which have long histories of celebrating excellence in college basketball.
