Tulane’s baseball squad saw its 2026 American Baseball Conference championship hopes evaporate on Friday night, dropping a 10‑6 decision to Rice at Reckling Park on May 15.
Rice surged early, plating four runs in the second inning after a two‑run single by Zachary Daigre, and added a solo homer in the third to go up 5‑1. Tulane answered with a solo homer from Hugh Pinkney in the fourth, but the Owls extended their lead to 7‑2 before the Green Wave could rally.
Trent Liolios paced the offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Pinkney’s fourth‑inning homer accounted for one of his two runs scored. Jacob Moore tossed a scoreless eighth, but the Owls pulled away with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, capped by sacrifice flies from JC Davis and Landis Davila.
The final margin of 10‑6 left Tulane at 7‑21 in road and neutral‑site games and marked the 11th time the team allowed double‑digit runs this season. The Green Wave will close the regular season with a 1 p.m. rematch against Rice on Sunday, May 16.
What’s next for the Green Wave?
Despite the setback, Liolios noted it was his third three‑hit game and fourth three‑RBI performance of the campaign, underscoring his role as an offensive anchor heading into the final stretch.
