Tulane’s football team is entering the new season with a noticeable infusion of talent, as the program has announced a series of strategic additions to both its defensive and offensive lines. The moves come as the Green Wave look to build on last year’s progress and contend for a stronger finish in the American Athletic Conference.
A revamped roster
The Green Wave have welcomed six newcomers to the defensive front, each bringing a different skill set. Among them is Reshad Sterling, a sophomore transfer from the University of Houston who grew up in Louisiana and brings experience from a Power Five environment. Dalton Hughes, a fifth‑year senior from South Alabama, contributed 40 tackles and half a sack last season, adding depth and leadership to the unit.
On the offensive side, Tulane has signed five fresh prospects, including three transfers and two true freshmen. Tylan George, a four‑star recruit from West Monroe, is ranked as the 11th best interior lineman nationally and is expected to compete for immediate playing time. Ryan Mickow, a towering 6‑7, 317‑pound transfer from Boston College, adds size and versatility, while Gavin Marks, a standout from Mercer, brings a high national ranking among interior line transfers.
Key newcomers and their impact
Beyond the trenches, Tulane has also bolstered its skill positions with transfers Destyn Hill, Jaylin Lucas and Johnnie Daniels. Hill, a 2019 state champion from Edna Karr, posted 54 receptions for 1,047 yards and 14 touchdowns in high school, and he impressed during spring drills by scoring the winning touchdown in the Spring Showcase. Lucas, known for his kickoff return prowess, amassed 1,420 career return yards and three touchdowns, while Daniels, a fifth‑year senior who redshirted last year, is eager to earn a larger role on the field.
Coaches have praised the energy these newcomers have brought to practice, noting that Hill and Lucas both stood out during the recent spring training sessions. Their performances have raised optimism that the Green Wave’s revamped units can generate more pressure on opposing quarterbacks and open up new avenues in the passing game.
With a blend of seasoned transfers and promising freshmen, Tulane’s coaching staff believes the new roster pieces will not only fill gaps but also elevate the overall competitiveness of the team. As the season approaches, the added depth could prove decisive in close conference matchups.
