A Milestone for Tuskegee Athletics
In February 2026 Tuskegee University announced the creation of its first men’s and women’s soccer programs, a milestone in the institution’s 145‑year history. The inaugural contest arrived on August 17, 2026, when the men’s side faced an opponent and settled for a 1‑1 draw. Toree Davis found the back of the net to become the program’s first ever scorer.
The atmosphere on campus was electric, with students, alumni and families filling the stands. Daryl Cossey Jr., a Savannah, Georgia, student, energized the crowd with chants that kept the momentum high throughout the game.
Among the spectators were Walter Turner, a parent who has followed his son Christopher Turner’s soccer journey since the youngster was four, and Shawn Haywood, who traveled from Montgomery to watch freshman goalkeeper Samuel Glasgow, a Trinidad and Tobago native making his collegiate debut.
Tymilla Robertson and her son Isaiah, who drove from Smithfield, Virginia, attended the exhibition to see Isaiah Robertson, a freshman midfielder, and to experience life at an HBCU. Isaiah expressed his ambition to help shape the program’s legacy, emphasizing the personal significance of wearing the Tuskegee colors.
The schedule will continue with a match against Auburn University‑Montgomery on August 22, followed by a game against Faulkner University the next Monday, as the team builds toward a full season of competition.
Beyond the field, the event underscored a broader sense of community pride, drawing alumni, members of the women’s soccer squad, and supporters from the men’s basketball team, all eager to witness a new chapter for Tuskegee athletics.
