A milestone for Maryland's field hockey program
Twelve members of the University of Maryland women's field hockey team have been chosen to compete in the Senior Nexus Championship, a three‑day showcase that draws the attention of national selectors.
The lineup features nine returning Terps alongside three incoming freshmen, creating a blend of experience and fresh talent that could reshape the program's future.
Among the veterans are forwards Maci Bradford, Skylar Gilman and Jordyn Hollamon, midfielders Brinkley Eyre and Aida Lerubino, defenders Erin Callahan and Sarah Walker, and goalkeepers Alyssa Klebasko and Ryleigh Osborne.
The fresh faces include forward Kendall Gilmore and midfielders Ella Beach and Lily Michell, each arriving with high expectations for the upcoming season.
The championship, scheduled for July 17‑19 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, provides a platform for these athletes to demonstrate their abilities in front of coaches tasked with assembling the 2026‑27 U‑21 Women’s national team.
Head coach Missy Meharg, who has guided the Terps for over two decades, will be watching closely as the players vie for the chance to extend their international careers.
Beyond individual ambition, the event underscores the growing visibility of collegiate field hockey and the strategic pathways it offers for aspiring national team members.
Looking ahead
If the pattern of recent selections holds, Maryland could see several of its players earn a place on the U‑21 roster, marking a significant step toward future senior national team participation.
