The Twin Cities Gus Macker Basketball Tournament is set to make its annual return to Brooklyn Park this August, bringing a weekend of outdoor three‑on‑three play to the community.
Open to players aged eight and up, the event will be held at North Hennepin Community College, where teams of four will compete on August 15 and 16.
Organized by Minneapolis Northwest Tourism, the tournament is more than just a game; it serves as a fundraiser for local nonprofits and a celebration of the region’s basketball culture.
"It’s a time for basketball enthusiasts to enjoy the sport outdoors," said Leslie Wright, CEO of Minneapolis Northwest Tourism, highlighting the event’s family‑focused atmosphere.
This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the Gus Macker Tournament and the third edition staged in the Brooklyn Park area, underscoring its long‑standing roots.
Last year’s edition raised nearly $30,000 for community charities and attracted 173 teams, a benchmark the organizers hope to surpass.
Teams of four can register by July 27, 2026, with a $200 entry fee, while nonprofits and businesses are invited to sponsor or volunteer.
In addition to the competition, the schedule features a family fun day and a mascot game on Saturday, a classic car show on Sunday, and a lineup of food trucks, including hot‑dog vendors operated by the Lion’s Club.
