A New Chapter for Mercyhurst Basketball

Mercyhurst University, located in Erie, Pennsylvania, has completed its transition from Division II to Division I, entering the competitive Northeast Conference for the upcoming season. The move has sparked heightened recruiting activity, with the Lakers targeting elite talent to bolster their roster.

Giuliana Giannikas, a point guard for Norwin, helped the team to a 19‑6 record and a runner‑up finish in the WPIAL Class 6A tournament. She led her squad in three‑point shooting, converting 48 of 132 attempts for a 36.4% rate, while also dishing out 48 assists and recording 45 steals.

Lyla McConnell, meanwhile, guided Belle Vernon to its first section title in 27 years. Averaging 11.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and two steals per game, she has been praised for her court vision and defensive instincts.
