Pole Position and the Road Ahead
Ty Gibbs will lead the field for the upcoming Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway after delivering a dominant qualifying performance that left the competition chasing his rhythm.
The 23‑year‑old posted a circuit of 74.829 seconds, averaging 95.738 miles per hour, to claim the top spot on the grid and mark his first pole of the season.
Carson Hocevar will share the front row with Gibbs, while Kyle Larson will line up in third, underscoring a strong showing for Toyota, which has claimed the lead spot in six of the last seven road‑course events.
Gibbs, who drives the No. 54 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, credited recent practice work and the guidance of fellow driver Austin Green for fine‑tuning his road‑course package.
He noted that Sonoma’s undulating layout demands a different approach, rewarding smooth, rhythm‑driven laps and presenting a distinct challenge from the pole position.
The driver, who once gravitated toward motocross, expressed gratitude for his path in NASCAR and said converting the pole into a victory would be a milestone in his quest for the first win of the season.
