St. Olaf College has named Tyler Ebner as its new full‑time assistant coach for the men’s ice hockey program, effective June 1. The announcement was made by Head Coach Tyler Lindstrom, who highlighted Ebner’s blend of playing pedigree, coaching experience, and academic distinction.
A Promising Addition to the Coaching Staff
Ebner arrives after two seasons as associate head coach with the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League, where he oversaw the team’s defensive corps and power‑play unit. In that role he helped shape a unit that ranked among the league’s most efficient in 2025‑26.
Prior to his NAHL tenure, Ebner served as an assistant coach for the NCAA Division III program at Fredonia State University, where he continued to develop his tactical acumen and recruitment skills.
His playing career unfolded at Gustavus Adolphus College, where he contributed 36 points on 17 goals and 19 assists across 76 games. The four‑time American Hockey Coaches Association All‑American Scholar graduated in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and a minor in coaching.
What This Means for the Program
Coach Lindstrom expressed enthusiasm about integrating Ebner into the staff, noting that his familiarity with high‑level competition and his analytical approach will complement the existing coaching philosophy. Lindstrom believes Ebner’s background will help the Oles maintain their competitive edge in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Ebner’s first day on campus is slated for June 1, when he will begin coordinating practice sessions, scouting opponents, and mentoring student‑athletes. The hiring underscores St. Olaf’s commitment to blending on‑ice expertise with academic rigor, a combination that has defined the program’s recent successes.
