Waynesburg University announced the hiring of Tyler Rubasky as its new head baseball coach, filling the vacancy left by Michael Impellittieri’s resignation after a 20‑56 record. The move comes as the program looks to rebound from a season that saw the Yellow Jackets finish 13‑27 overall and 4‑18 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.
A Coach With a Proven Track Record
Rubasky previously served as head coach at Anderson University in Indiana, where he guided the Ravens to a 22‑20‑1 record before being dismissed. His earlier stints included assistant roles at Waynesburg, Franklin College, Davis & Elkins College and a recent position at Trine University. Those experiences have equipped him with a deep understanding of player development and recruiting, skills he now hopes to leverage for the Yellow Jackets.
Tim Fusina, the university’s athletic director, praised Rubasky’s familiarity with the program and his detailed plans for improvement. He highlighted the coach’s expertise in recruiting and player growth, noting that Rubasky’s insider perspective could accelerate the team’s return to competitive form within the conference.
Vision for the Future
Rubasky’s ambition extends beyond a single conference tournament appearance; he envisions a trajectory that culminates in a national championship. To achieve that, he plans to increase the program’s visibility in the Pittsburgh region and build on the recruiting networks that previously helped Anderson attract talent.
The coach also cited personal motivation, recalling how former teammate Matthew Bensinger inspired his career path. That early influence set Rubasky on a course that now brings him back to the place where his coaching journey began.
