A seasoned coach with Ivy League and NESCAC experience steps into a new role

Tyler Simms Joins Bucknell Men’s Basketball Staff

Tyler Simms was announced in June 2026 as an assistant coach for the Bucknell Bison men’s basketball program, marking the latest step in a career that has taken him from the Ivy League to Division III and back to the national stage.

During his seven‑year stint as head coach at Clark University, Simms guided the Cougars to a 91‑68 record and captured the 2025 NEWMAC Tournament title, the program’s first conference championship since 2010.

A Record of Winning at Every Level

His success at Clark built on earlier achievements at Brown, where he served four years as an assistant and helped the Bears finish as high as fourth in the Ivy League in 2018‑19, and at Trinity College, where he was part of a staff that won the 2014‑15 NESCAC regular‑season crown.

Before his head‑coaching appointment, Simms also directed Basketball, LLC, a venture that organizes AAU and high‑school events for the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., and worked as a graduate assistant at Mercyhurst University and Siena College.

From Player to Coach

A 2008 graduate of Trinity with a degree in educational studies, Simms earned four varsity letters as a player, captained the team in his senior year, and was a member of the 2007‑08 NESCAC Tournament champions.

Now on the staff in Lewisburg, Simms is expected to leverage his recruiting network and developmental expertise to help the Bison contend for Patriot League titles, while his wife Kristin Simms and colleague John Griffin III are also noted figures in the program’s broader community.
