Tyronn Lue, the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, traveled back to his roots in Mexico, Missouri, to run a basketball clinic for children ranging from fourth grade through high school.
A Homecoming on the Court
The event was staged at Mexico Middle School on June 30 and July 1, and was coordinated by Lue’s Commitment to Community (C2C) fund, the same initiative he created to give back to the town that shaped his early years.
Speaking to the campers, Lue stressed that hard work and structure are the foundations of any achievement, a lesson he learned throughout his own playing and coaching career.
Longtime friend and former McDonald’s All‑American Dwayne Bryant joined Lue on the sidelines, lending his own coaching experience to the mix, while C2C program lead LaVonda Wilson and coordinator Regina Johnson handled the logistics.
The clinic drew 105 youngsters, who responded with enthusiastic feedback, underscoring the positive impact of bringing professional mentorship to the community.
Lue’s Fourth of July festivities, which began as a tribute to his late grandfather’s birthday, now double as a celebration of family, heritage, and the next generation of athletes.
