The Le Moyne College baseball squad fell to a 20-3 defeat at the hands of the University at Albany on Tuesday night, a loss that underscored the Great Danes’ offensive firepower.
Offensive Onslaught Defines the Night
UAlbany’s lineup turned the game into a showcase of extra‑base hitting, with eight different players contributing RBIs. Tre Mariano paced the attack with six RBIs, including two doubles and a hit‑by‑pitch, while Joe Perri added two runs on three hits.
The scoring began early when John Vitucci walked to lead off the bottom of the first and Michael Maggio followed with an RBI triple that put Albany ahead 1-0. A sacrifice fly by Mariano soon after extended the lead to 2-0.
Le Moyne answered in the second inning, loading the bases with no outs before Derek Diaz’s RBI single trimmed the margin to 2-1. The Great Danes responded quickly, as Vitucci doubled in the bottom of the second to make it 4-1, and Brian Guerrero’s two‑run single in the third pushed the lead to 6-1.
A cascade of runs followed in the fifth and sixth frames. Maggio’s RBI single in the fifth made it 11-1, and Mariano’s three‑run double in the sixth blew the game open at 17-1. A wild pitch later added another run, and Perri’s RBI single capped the sixth‑inning explosion with a 20‑1 tally.
Le Moyne managed to chip away in the seventh, with Chaz Anthony delivering a two‑run single to bring the final score to 20-3. Reliever Ryan Pittz closed out the game by inducing a ground‑out double play on the last batter.
The Dolphins will close out their regular season on Thursday, traveling to face Central Connecticut State University at noon.
