The UCF Knights baseball team is set to step onto the national stage once again, marking its second NCAA Tournament appearance in just three seasons. The achievement reflects a program that has quickly moved from underdog status to a consistent contender.
During the regular season the Knights posted a 31‑21 record, finishing fourth in the competitive Big 12 Conference. That finish not only exceeded preseason expectations but also highlighted the team’s depth and ability to compete against traditional powerhouses.
Auburn Regional Preview
The Knights will open play in the Auburn Regional against North Carolina State, then face the national No. 4 seed Auburn and the Milwaukee Panthers. Each opponent brings a distinct profile: the Wolfpack arrive with a 32‑22 record and a potent bat in Ty Head, while the Tigers boast a 38‑19 slate anchored by hitter Brandon McCraine and pitcher Jake Marciano. Milwaukee, at 25‑31, relies on Dominic Kibler’s power and Gavin Theis’s steady arm.
UCF’s pitching staff, despite a series of injuries, still managed to rank 26th nationally in earned‑run average with a 4.37 ERA. The rotation is anchored by Camden Wicker, Mateo Gray and Max Murray, each of whom has shown the ability to shut down opposing lineups when it matters most.
At the plate, the Knights count on catcher Zak Skinner, outfielders Andrew Williamson and John Smith III, and a supporting cast that includes the versatile Camden Kuhnke and power hitter AJ Blubaugh. Their combined experience should provide the offensive spark needed to challenge the regional field.
Coach Rich Wallace, now in his 15th season at the helm, has guided the team through a demanding schedule and remains confident in his squad’s preparation. “We’ve built a resilient group that can adapt,” Wallace said, “and we’re eager to see how far we can go.”
The Knights also carry historical advantages: they hold a 5‑6 edge over Auburn, a 1‑0 record against N.C. State, and a 2‑0 advantage against Milwaukee from previous meetings, including a 12‑2 victory over the Tigers earlier in the season.
