UCF Baseball Rises to Its Highest Seed
The University of Central Florida’s baseball program has reached a milestone that underscores its rapid ascent within the Big 12 Conference. With a 19‑11 record in league play and a 31‑20 overall mark, the Knights have secured the highest seeding ever achieved since joining the conference, positioning them for a deep run in the upcoming tournament.
Their first‑round matchup will be against Oklahoma State on May 21 at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Arizona. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m., and the game will be televised on ESPNU, with a live stream available through ESPN+ and Fubo.
Coach Rich Wallace, who has guided the team through a turnaround from last season’s disappointment of missing the Big 12 tournament altogether, praised the squad’s resilience. “We’ve built a culture of perseverance,” Wallace said. “The players have responded to adversity and turned it into opportunity.
The Knights’ standout performances have earned individual recognition as well. Camden Wicker, Andrew Williamson, and John Smith III were all selected to the All‑Big 12 second team, while Evan Jones, Kris Sosnowski, and Zak Skinner received honorable‑mention accolades. Freshmen Alex Lodise and Max Murray also cracked the all‑freshman team.
Wicker paced the staff with a team‑high 68 innings, posting a 5‑3 record and a 3.71 ERA. Williamson batted .317 while launching 12 home runs and driving in 41 runs. Smith III matched the team lead with 12 homers, hitting .332 and adding 49 RBIs. Their contributions have helped UCF climb to an RPI of 32, likely guaranteeing a second at‑large berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Beyond the individual honors, the team’s consistency has been evident throughout the spring, winning seven of ten conference series. Their strong finish not only fuels excitement among fans but also reinforces the program’s trajectory as a rising force in collegiate baseball.
