UCLA’s 2027 Guard Hunt
Mick Cronin, the head coach of the UCLA Bruins, has already secured three commitments for the 2026 recruiting class, bringing in Joe Philion, Javonte Floyd and Gunars Grinvalds.
The focus now shifts to the 2027 cycle, where Kevin Savage, a 41st‑ranked point guard nationally and 13th among his position, is drawing attention for his efficient play and leadership on the court. During the Adidas 3SSB Circuit he posted averages of 20.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
Savage’s recruitment picture includes a final six of UCLA, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Purdue, each of which he has visited or studied closely. The undersized but confident guard is known for managing a game and making positive plays.
Coach Cronin has indicated that a point guard will be essential for the 2027 squad, especially if rising star Trent Perry decides to test the NBA draft, making Savage a potential challenger for the starting role.
What It Means for UCLA
The Bruins’ strategy reflects a broader trend of targeting high‑character, versatile guards who can manage tempo and create scoring opportunities, a philosophy that aligns with Cronin’s recent recruiting narrative.
Securing Savage would not only fill a future need but also reinforce the program’s reputation among elite prospects, potentially influencing the decisions of other top recruits.
