UCLA’s 2027 recruiting class received a significant boost when four‑star cornerback Trey Hopkins announced his commitment to the Bruins, choosing the university over a host of elite programs.
Hopkins, listed at 6‑foot‑2 and 195 pounds, is ranked No. 84 among cornerbacks in the national 2027 rankings by 247 Sports. In his junior season he recorded one interception, 31 tackles and 19 pass breakups, showcasing a blend of size and playmaking ability.
A Strategic Addition to a Top‑Ranked Defense
The Bruins’ defensive unit, already positioned sixth in the Big Ten for pass efficiency allowed, will integrate Hopkins alongside other highly rated secondary prospects such as JuJu Johnson, Jerry Outhouse Jr., Khalil Terry and Pole Moala. Together, they promise to reinforce a secondary that helped the team limit opponents to under 200 passing yards per game in conference play.
Hopkins cited the coaching staff, academic resources and the chance to contribute early as key factors in his decision. He also noted the program’s upward trajectory, a sentiment echoed by recruiting analyst Bob Chesney, who highlighted UCLA’s growing influence on the West Coast.
The commitment lifts UCLA’s class to a No. 4 national ranking with 19 total pledges, underscoring the program’s ability to attract top talent to Westwood as the team looks ahead to the next season.
