A New Chapter for the Huskies
Summer workouts for the University of Connecticut men’s basketball program are slated to begin on June 1, 2026, kicking off an 11‑month campaign that carries the weight of a fourth Final Four appearance and a third national championship in the last five years.
The roster will feature a blend of seasoned returnees and a wave of newcomers. Eight players will arrive on campus, with at least six expected to earn significant minutes. Among them are transfers Najai Hines and Nik Khamenia, who are projected to start, and freshmen Colben Landrew and Junior County, who are battling for starting spots.
Key returning players Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins headline the backcourt, both being discussed as preseason contenders for the Big East Player of the Year award. Senior guard Jayden Ross is also back and is expected to compete for the starting small‑forward role.
The incoming class includes Oskar Giltay and Nils Machowski, who are slated to be pivotal reserves, while Isaiah Shaw and Jaye Nash will provide depth. Meanwhile, Alex Karaban and Tarris Reed Jr. are preparing for the NBA Draft, and Malachi Smith is currently playing professionally in Puerto Rico.
Several notable moves have reshaped the squad. Solo Ball will miss the entire season due to wrist surgery but is expected to return for the 2027‑28 campaign. Jaylin Stewart has transferred to UNLV, and Eric Reibe has emerged at USC after a single year in Storrs. Jacob Furphy followed Luke Murray to Boston College, while Alec Millender and Dwayne Koroma have exhausted their eligibility.
The coaching staff will feel the absence of Luke Murray, whose departure represents a significant loss for the offense and recruiting efforts. Despite the turnover, the non‑conference schedule includes a much‑anticipated rematch of the national title game against Michigan in Boston.
