Tom Moore, the general manager of the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team, announced his retirement this week, bringing to a close a career that has spanned almost four decades of college basketball.
A career defined by championships
Moore’s journey with UConn began in 1999 when he joined the staff as an assistant coach. Over the next 21 years he helped the Huskies capture four national championships — in 1999, 2004, 2023 and 2024 — and became a cornerstone of the program’s sustained excellence.
Before his UConn tenure, Moore served as the head coach at Quinnipiac University for ten seasons, compiling a 162‑146 record and earning the 2010 Northeast Conference Coach of the Year honor for his efforts to elevate the program.
In a heartfelt statement, Moore expressed gratitude to his family, players and former coaches, noting that the support of those around him made his journey possible and that he leaves with memories of countless moments on and off the court.
