Fans Invited to Witness the Huskies in Action
On Saturday, August 15, the University of Connecticut football program will throw open the gates of Rentschler Field in East Hartford, inviting anyone who wants to watch the team in action during the second week of preseason camp.
The session is more than a drill; it is a chance for the community to see a squad that blends 30 veterans from a back‑to‑back 9‑4 season with 66 newcomers eager to prove themselves.
Head coach Jason Candle, who has never posted a losing record in his decade at the helm, said the practice is designed to let fans form their own opinions about the team’s readiness and to amplify the home‑field atmosphere that can be a decisive factor when the season opens.
A Schedule Packed with Familiar Foes
The Huskies will open their season on September 5 against Lafayette before embarking on a slate that includes seven home games and matchups against Power Five opponents such as Syracuse, North Carolina and James Madison.
Candle expressed cautious optimism, noting that early work has been promising but that player development will require time and that the team is still finding its identity on the field.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, the coach highlighted the importance of fan engagement, suggesting that a vibrant crowd can help the team translate practice energy into game‑day performance.
