University of Connecticut's men's soccer program is set to welcome a new wave of talent for the class of 2026, as head coach Chris Gbandi unveiled eight student‑athletes who will join the Huskies next fall. The incoming class spans continents, bringing together athletes from Ghana, Japan, Bolivia, Liberia, Georgia, New Hampshire, Poland and Alabama. This multicultural mix is expected to inject a variety of playing styles and cultural insights into the team's dynamic.
Abel Ador, a Ghanaian forward who sharpened his skills at Monroe University and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, arrives with a blend of collegiate experience and international exposure. Yotaro Furutani, meanwhile, comes from Monroe University after a standout period in Japan's Prince Takamado Trophy Prince League, adding technical finesse from the Far East.
Rashid Nacif Joffre, a Bolivian midfielder previously associated with Oriente Petrolero in the Primera División, joins after a productive spell at WVU Potomac State College. Jacques Mason, a Liberian defender, brings experience from Wilmington University and the Philadelphia Union Academy, while Jorge Sandoval, the 2024 Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year from the University of North Georgia, adds offensive firepower.
Aidan Sheppela, who spent two seasons at the University of Maryland before playing for Seacoast United, offers defensive reliability. Szymon Sokolnicki, a Polish midfielder who captained Lincoln Memorial University to a SAC Tournament Championship, and Brayden Strait, who navigated stints at Lipscomb University and Auburn University at Montgomery, round out a cohort marked by competitive spirit and growth mindset.
