UConn announced on August 19, 2026 that Charlie Stevens, a former San Antonio Spurs front office executive, would assume the role of general manager for the Huskies' men's basketball program.
Stevens comes to Storrs after five years in the Spurs organization, where he rose from an internship with Excel Sports Management to a recent promotion as director of grassroots scouting, and he also spent time with Israeli club Ironi Nes Ziona BC.
Scouting and player development roots
He played college basketball at Division III Clark University, where he shot 38 percent from three‑point range and earned a reputation as a sharpshooter, before a senior season cut short by the COVID‑19 pandemic and a political science degree in 2021.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Stevens starred at York Preparatory School, leading the team to the NYSAIS quarterfinals in 2016 before moving on to Clark.
Coach Hurley's vision
UConn coach Dan Hurley, who has long advocated for a modernized front office, said Stevens' NBA connections and organizational acumen would help reshape roster building and fundraising, and he will work alongside Andrew Hurley, the coach's son and a graduate assistant who has already contributed to scouting, practice planning, video analysis and roster management.
The appointment signals a shift toward NBA‑style management structures at the collegiate level, positioning UConn to compete more aggressively in a landscape defined by player movement and name, image and likeness opportunities.
